The ICAN levels of training

Training & Workshops

ICAN provides professional development initiatives that meet the need for foundation knowledge in the VdT MoCA, but also enables you to grow in knowledge and skills for practice.  Reflecting the developmental nature of professional development from novice to advanced practitioner, ICAN provides levels of training from level 0 – level 3.

Level 3 – for advanced practitioners in the model seeking to gain and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the theory of creative ability.  This level incorporates formal modular study followed by assessment of that knowledge in practice.  This level will be available in 2013.

Level 2 – develops knowledge and skills for Practical Application of the model, including developing detailed understanding of creative ability as seen in particular levels, characteristics of activity for assessment and intervention to ‘pitch’ activity ‘at the right level’, and grading activity to the ‘just right challenge’.  Support in Practice addresses your learning needs in your setting and also an in-depth analysis of the OT service delivery in relation to your client population.

Level 1 – The first of three levels focussed upon the VdT MoCA.  Level 1 provides knowledge required to use the model in practice and to be permitted to use and reproduce the Creative Participation Assessment tool.  Suitable for OTs and OT support workers that are supervised by an OT.  A post training initiative offered as Support in Practice is a full day visit to address your learning and development needs in your setting.

Level 0 – This level is for healthcare support workers in in-patient wards, residential care homes or any setting wishing to enable clients to participate in activities.  This very practical training seeks to develop understanding of what it takes to do activity and how to use activity in day to day practice.
